The Joy of Boys!-The Journey Home.

We took a mini vacation this past week to surprise my dad's parents for their 50th anniversary. I will blog more about that once I get my pictures put on the computer! I just wanted to share our "oh so fun" trip home yesterday.
It is about a 12 hour drive from Des Moines to Wylie, which is where we needed to pick up the dog and drop off my sister. We left fairly eary but not too early and then stopped at Micky D's to get some breakfast and the HyVee so I could finially buy a hawkeyes shirt, so that got us a little bit of a later start. Still not too bad. We make it out of Iowa just fine and coming through Kansas we are watching the lightening ahead. Yep, we are heading right into the storm! Ok, a little rain never hurt, we will just have to slow down a bit. A LITTLE RAIN?! NO! It was insane! It was raining so hard you couldn't see out the front or the passenger side, semi trucks and other cars were pulled over under ever bridge we passed...we continued to drive. Then Jo decided he needs to pee...we are all encouraging him to "wait", "hold it just a little longer until we find an exit"! At this point we are driving 20 mph and still can't see. The poor boy is shaking he has to go so badly and of course, I'm sure the rain isn't helping! Jeff pulls the car over and informs Jordan and me that I will be taking him to pee on the side of the road! In this crazy storm! Remember when I said you couldn't see out the passenger window... the wind was blowing so hard it felt like the car was going to tip. Jo freaks out, much like I did when I found out! So Jeff finds a Sprite bottle that is half full (or half empty...it's up to you). He rolls his window down to empty the bottle and tells Jo to "pee in the bottle". Well, as you can imagine, he thinks that is hilarious! Picture it...he is standing in the front seat with me, pants to his knees, bottle in hand and mom is hold a towel under "just in case". He actually does it! He peed in a bottle for the first time in his life! Is that a milestone that mom's want to remember? (I'm sure there will be many more to come as he gets older and starts having his own road trips.) Any who, I think we are home free...until...HE DROPS THE BOTTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, you read that right, he dropped the bottle! I guess he thought I had it, I thought he had it; when really neither of us had it! Ok, remember now, we are in the middle of no where with a crazy storm. Luckily I had the towel and that was my way of cleaning it until we could continue on our drive. Jeff tried to drive a little more to get us to a store and throw out the floor mat but that was not happening, we had to pull over yet again. This time we searched the sky for Dorthy and Toto. I was trying so hard not to let the kids in the back know I was scared out of my mind that we were going to blow away! Jeff couldn't take it anymore and decided to drive some more. I think we went 20 mph or less all the way out of the storm. Finally we found a Wal-Mart and were able to throw out the towel and floor mat and buy some carpet cleaner, deoderizor! We hit a couple more storms on the way, but nothing like the first one!
We finally made it to Wylie at about 10:45 last night.
